There are some theatre productions, both big and small, that aren’t going to make it through the current shutdown and we’re sad to report that when London Theatreland gets back to some kind of normal Waitress will be missing.

It’s been a busy week in the diner for the West End production of Waitress with new cast members Lucie Jones, Ashley Roberts and Blake Harrison joining the cast plus the announcement that the Tony-nominated musical is now booking to 7 December 2019. Our #FirstNightTakeover series continues with Perry O’Bree attending the West End opening of the delicious WAITRESS at the Adelphi Theatre. Perry was there on the Red Carpet – rubbing shoulders with Carrie Hope Fletcher and Cuba Gooding Jr – plus post-show there was a chance to chat to cast members Peter Hannah and Shaun Prendergast. And did we mention Perry squeezed in meeting awesome Waitress composer Sara Bareilles too? It’s amazing what a little baking can do.

They are big shoes to fill but we have the feeling that Nkeki Obi-Melekwe is going to make her mark in her West End debut as Tina in the record-breaking run of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical at the Aldwych Theatre. She joins the company on 15 April 2019, as does the new Ike Turner, Ashley Zhangazha. And as for original West End Tina Adrienne Warren, she is preparing to head off to NYC to lead the Broadway production in autumn 2019.

There’s already a big treat on its way at the Adelphi Theatre when Sara Bareilles’ musical Waitress opens for previews from 8 February 2019, but that’s not all on the menu. In the perfect pie partnership, The Theatre Café has teamed up with the show and will be making and selling delicious fresh pies each evening. Does a night out get any better than that?

Rehearsals are now underway for the West End production of Waitress ahead of performances beginning at the Adelphi Theatre on 8 February. Joining new addition Shaun Prendergast and US stars Katharine McPhee and Jack McBrayer are Laura Baldwin, Peter Hannah, David Hunter and Marisha Wallace. Pie anyone?

Best known as Kenneth in 30 Rock, US film and television actor Jack McBrayer is crossing the pond to take on the role of Ogie in Waitress at London’s Adelphi Theatre. He will join an already impressive line-up led by Katharine McPhee and also featuring Marisha Wallace, Laura Baldwin, Peter Hannah and David Hunter. Service please…

Theatre lovers who have always dreamt of singing on the West End stage will soon be able to make their dream a reality when ‘Cast Album Karaoke’ nights are held post-show on 19 February and 18 March 2019 at the London production of Sara Bareilles’ Waitress. Audience members just need to sign up in the theatre before the performance. Are you tempted?
